【Abstract】 [Purpose/significance] To promote the think tank’s academic research, it is essential to first define the conceptual fundamentals of think tank. Understanding think tanks’ forward-looking characteristic will enhance the level and quality of the think tank’s research. [Method/process] Through the comparison between think tanks and natural science, this paper discusses think tank’s forward looking connotation, and its significance on research direction, research content and research results. This paper also discusses the current think tanks research and practices’ misconception and problems. [Result/conclusion] Forward-looking research is the essence of think tank.
