【Abstract】 In this interview, Professor Li Weiping talks about how he has developed his academic experience from the study of Joyce’s fiction, the stream of consciousness fiction, modernism to histories of English and American literature. He maintains that he and his colleagues have been looking for effective measures to develop China’ foreign language and literature discipline and build up a community of shared interests for scholars in this field, in order to contribute to "the connotative development " of this discipline. Professor Li points out that young scholars must dare to explore the unknown and be creative in their research work. Meanwhile he emphasizes the importance of acquiring an academic spirit and achieving the length and depth of one’s research.
