【Abstract】 Based on the vowel pattern hypothesis,this article explored the characteristics of primary vowels([ɑ],[i]and [u]) acquisition in English as the third language(L3) learned by bilingual Uygur college students whose second language(L2) is Mandarin Chinese,and in Uygur language as L3 learned by Han English majors whose L2 is English. By applying the methods of acoustic experiments and statistical analysis,it aimed to investigate the different roles of the participants’ L1 and L2 played in the process of their L3 vowel acquisition. The main findings of the study were: both L1 and L2 of the L3 learners may influence vowel production in their L3 acquisition; the different transfer effects are determined by the phonetic distance among the three languages.更多还原
