【Abstract】 The legendary story of Hui-neng that was told in Altar Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch plays a very crucial role on constructing the sacred image of Hui-neng as a Living Buddha. As a Buddhist story which was constructed in the chinese cultural context, the story utilized a lot of elements of Chinese ancient myth. This fact embodied especially in the following two aspects: one is the imitation of the pattern of story that king Yao(尧)abdicated his position to Shun(舜), the other is the use of the oriiginal number 3 as the basic principle to organize all the plots. In one words, It is absorbing and utilizing the Chinese traditional cultural elements that finds an important way to sinicize Buddhism.更多还原
