Effects of dietary protein levels on growth performance and serum biochemical parameters in Tibetan pigs
【Abstract】 This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of diets with different protein levels on Tibetan pigs’ production performance and serum biochemical. Forty-eight Tibetan pigs with similar conditions and body weight were randomly divided into 4 groups, each group of 3 replicates with 4 pigs per replicate. These Tibetan pigs were fed 16% crude protein(control group),14%(Trial 1),12%(Trial 2),or 10%(Trial 3)diets with amino acid balance. The experiment was lasted for six months. The results showed that compared with the control group,Trial 2 significantly reduced the body weight of Tibetan pigs at four-month-old(P < 0.05),Trial 3 significantly reduced the body weight of Tibetan pigs at four-month-old and six-month-old(P < 0.05),but Tibetan pigs final weight at eight-month-old were not differed in these groups(P > 0.05). In addition, there were no significant difference in average daily gain, average daily feed intake and feed weight ratio of Tibetan pigs among these different protein levels diets(P > 0.05). Serum urea nitrogen levels in Tibetan pigs decreased significantly as dietary protein levels decreased(P < 0.05). Compared with control group, lower levels of crude protein(12% and 10%)significantly reduced serum glucose and Ig M levels of Tibetan pigs(P < 0.05),but did not have much impacts on Ig G levels of Tibetan pigs(P > 0.05). In conclusion,Tibetan pigs have good adaptability to low protein diet. Diets with 12% or 10% protein levels doesn’t affect the final production performance of Tibetan pigs, but it will reduce the immune function of Tibetan pigs. The protein level in diets at 14% is a suitable choice for Tibetan pigs.
