【Abstract】 Although the notion that Yan Fu inherited about the gentlemanship in ancient China’s officialdom reflected his traditional Chinese cultural thought,he was indeed influenced by the view of Western gentlemanship,as he had a thorough knowledge of both Western and traditional Chinese cultures. The influence lies in the fact that he enriched the moral principle of ancient China’s gentlemanship with the modern Western views of freedom and truth,that he put the modern market economy thought into the gentlemen’s view of moral and profit,and that he combined the thought of evolution by Thomas Huxley in his Evolution and Ethics with the Confucian doctrine of the mean that a Chinese gentleman followed.更多还原
