【摘要】 《红楼梦》中"猩猩毡",常作御寒衣物用,均为红色;因又有"大红猩猩毡"用例,显见出"猩猩毡"之"猩猩",是名物而非颜色。中国汉英平行语料大世界中霍、杨两个一百二十回《红楼梦》全译本译者,主要都用义为"毛毡"的felt一词对译"猩猩毡"。"毛毡"felt虽将原文本"猩猩毡"之"猩猩"作为名物,避免了众多论者将之目为颜色词的讹误,但仍将"猩猩毛"混同于羊毛兔毛牛毛等动物毛的类概念中,消隐了"猩猩毛"具体概念的特征,未能准确、充分、通达地传达出"猩猩毡"作为王公贵族奢华用品之义,也有悖《红楼梦》作品整体语言文化氛围。更多还原

【Abstract】 In The Story of the Stone,"Xing Xing Zhan",as the winter clothes in most cases,unexceptionally is red. But this red color is an adjective modifying "Xing Xing Zhan"as in "Dahong Xing Xing Zhan",which shows that "Xing Xing"here refers to the clothing materials not the red color. In the China’s World of Bilingual Parallel Corpora of Chinese Classics,both of the two translators of The Story of the Stone,Hawkes and Yang Hsien-yi,translated "Xing Xing Zhan"into the word "felt"which means"A type of soft thick cloth made from wool or hair that has been pressed tightly together". Although the word "felt"selected by Hawkes and Yang Hsien-yi in these two English versions refers to a material object instead of the red color,the original word "Xing Xing"is not successfully translated since both of them take "Xing Xing Mao"as the common animal hairs,like the hair of sheep,the hair of rabbits or the hair of the cattle,etc.,which makes the nature of the concept of"Xing Xing Mao"vanished. Thus the translated word"felt"cannot convey the implied meaning of the nobility’s extravagant luxuries correctly,adequately and reasonably,and it may go against the atmosphere of the language culture of the novel.更多还原
