【Abstract】 People still have different opinions on the note of "wuning"(无 宁)in Zuo Zhuan so far. Through the reorganizing the literature of Zuo Zhuan and related annotation, the study tries to sum up its usage and finds that the meaning of"wuning"(无宁) is neither "ning"(宁)nor a kind of wish word and it is a modal adverbs, mostly used in interrogative sentences. At fact, it is a determinate conjecture modality adverb which can give a gentle hint of advice or warning.
