Theory of Arranging Fingers in Cunkou Pulse Taking
【Abstract】 Diagnosis by feeling the pulse is one part of the therapy with syndrome differentiation. In general, traditional Chinese physician primarily makes use of the radial artery pulse at the styloid processes on both wrists, which is called cunkou or inch opening. When the practitioner takes the patient’s pulse, the guan or bar pulse is felt directly under the practitioner’s middle finger and the cun or inch pulse is felt by her or his index finger and the chi or cubit is found directly under the ring finger. But why should the Chinese physician to do like that? The passage is meant to make clear the reason by theories of "classic" and meridian and so on, in order to help with clinical application.
