【Abstract】 Franklin School of Corvallis, Oregon utilizes E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Curriculum and is identified as a "Core Knowledge School". The annual Franklin D.C. trip for the 7 th grade students is an integral component of the Core Knowledge Curriculum. This is authentic, meaningful, real world education in its clearest form. It is a rigorous, sequential, and structured curriculum designed to give students’ cultural literacy. As a curriculum of choice, D.C. trip is an integral component of Franklin curriculum system and stresses what a student should know, instead of what a student should be able to do. This trip curriculum relies on a rigorous pretrip preparation, a carefully orchestrated experience in D.C. and follow-up assignments post trip to integrate and synthesize the experience of the students, which balances the prescription of subject-content knowledge with the description of real world. D.C. trip program also relies on strong cooperation between teachers, students and parents. Teachers working with parents actually support students and is responsible for students.
