The naming method of animals in Compendium of Materia Medica reflects the characteristics of animal form,body color,behavior,habit and its classification status. These naming methods not only improved the scientificity and accuracy of animal names,but also enriched and developed the naming methods of animal species in ancient China. The naming methods of animal species in Compendium of Materia Medica were introduced and the naming principles of animal species were explored.
