【Abstract】 China has been importing increasing amounts of staple foods such as corn even as its domestic stocks soar,a peculiar combination that has led many officials and experts to criticize agricultural policies and say reforms are necessary.In this cover package,four officials and academics weigh in on this issue,analyzing the matter in an all-round way and suggesting changes the policymakers should consider.Issues discussed include the impact of rising labor costs on agriculture,government subsidies to farmers,and the gross mismatch between what consumers want and what is being produced.Chen Xiwen,an agricultural official,said the industry has reached a "moment of crisis" and called for breakthrough innovation in policies.The experts criticized the way government has been subsidizing farmers for distorting the market and preventing necessary changes on the supply side.更多还原
