【Abstract】 A recent proposal by the finance minister,Lou Jiwei,to have 72 million retirees in urban areas pay for their medical insurance has encountered strong opposition,but it needs to be done,says Zhu Hengpeng,a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.The current system is unsustainable considering how fast the population is aging,he argues.Another problem is that medical expenses have been growing faster than the overall economy for years,meaning that funding will run out quickly,Zhu says.He also argues that this is an equality issue because it is unfair to impose a heavier financial burden on people who are still working.更多还原
