【Abstract】 Faithful and felicitous translation is very important for the outgoing of Chinese literature. Michael S. Duke, a Canadian Chinese scholar and translator, highly followed the principle of faithfulness in translating Su Tong ’ s Three Novellas—Raise the Red Lantern, Nineteen Thirty-four Escape and Opium Family. In translation practice, Duke is good at grasping the essence of Chinese literature and culture. By employing foreignization as the main translation strategy, he was committed to transmit the original characteristics of the original. At the same time, he also takes the target readers’ acceptance into consideration. On the basis of being faithful to the charm of the original, he also made appropriate explanation, so as to enhance the readability of the translation among the target readers.更多还原
