【Abstract】 Ulysses is a world of flowers which are dazzling its readers. From cognitive metaphor,those various kinds of flowers,in addition to their various referential meanings,carry some rich symbolic and metaphorical implications. In some certain contexts,properties of those flowers as a source domain,such as beauty,purity,youth,love,sexual love,etc.,are duly mapped on Mr. and Mrs. Bloom,hero and heroine of the novel. Such a mapping contributes much to portraying characters,foregrounding the theme of sexual love and Joyce’s aesthetics of sexuality as well. In the novel,with flowers as his medium,Joyce,by venturing to describe their sexual instinct,sexual illusions and even sexual behaviour of both hero and heroine,is bold enough to challenge traditional sexual attitudes and ethics,succeeds in portraying two striking "antiheroes"who have broken the chains of gender mechanism either in role stereotype or behavior pattern,and deconstructs the traditional dichotomy of male as a subject identity and female as an object one.更多还原
