【Abstract】 In terms of such four cities as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Tianjin in transition from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, their official circles and business worlds have distinctive historical developments, geographical features, and social variations, but officials and business people shared a common characteristic, namely conspicuous consumption, shaping a morbid urban trend which was a social phenomenon and a cultural heritage.
