【Abstract】 Sulfonyl chlorides are important intermediates in organic synthesis and medicinal synthesis. The synthetic methods and research progress on preparation of sulfonyl chlorides from S-isothiourea salts have been reviewed. S-Isothiourea salts are odorless solids and can be easy prepared from thiourea with alkyl halides or alkyl methanesulfonates or sulfonates. They are the precursors for the preparation of the corresponding alkanethiols. It is an environment-friendly and step-economic method for the direct synthesis of sulfonyl chlorides from isothiourea salts as starting materials.
