【Abstract】 The Seventeenth Summer, created by Maureen Daly and once published in 1942, has attracted the public attention and thus become the originator for American Romanticism for young adult.The novel demonstrates several distinctive characteristics in the theme, plot and symbolic techniques. Setting the background against WWII, the author explores the special historical context for American females in the family. The sensitive topics including kissing, drinking and smoking of young adults are involved tentatively,which reflects the variety and keenness of the theme. In view of writing skills, the author utilizes the symbolic means to illustrate the themes and characterization, therefore laying a solid foundation for the following vigorous development of creative skills.更多还原
