【Abstract】 It is necessary to refresh our understanding of the academic mission for information retrieval course in the network information era. The correlation between scientific achievements and scientific information and between scientific literacy and information literacy revealed the fact that information retrieval capability is the core of information literacy when the information retrieval course is placed a broader academic background.
