【Abstract】 The distinction between propositional and non-propositional meanings is essential in metadiscourse studies. But there was a great deal of overlap between propositional materials and non-propositional materials in the previous studies of metadiscourse,which gave rise to the blurring in this area. Hedges and modals are the important carriers of interpersonal metadiscourse and main indicators of interpersonal meanings in English editorials. In order to solve the existing ambiguities between propositional materials and non-propositional ones in metadiscourse studies,this article has presented the definitions and classifications of hedges and modals that indicate interpersonal metadiscourse through the study of English editorials.更多还原
