【Abstract】 An English letter of job application can be regarded as a set of written speech acts. The theory of speech act stresses the equivalence between illocution and perlocution,namely,the equivalence between "intention"and "effect". English majors often express their speech acts in the way they do in their mother tongue,ignoring the possible negative effects on Englishspeaking employers,which lead to pragmatic failures in the choice of pragmatic strategies,frequency,and sequence. Only when English learners realize the importance of equivalence between "intention"and "effect",can they avoid pragmatic failures consciously and improve their cross-cultural communicative competence.更多还原
