【Abstract】 Xiangtai Cloth Shop, running with a small capital, gradually grew into the largest firm in Shanghai area of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China by timely adjusting business strategies in terms of handmade cloth purchasing, processing and selling according to the changes in handmade cloth market. Under the impact of imported cloth and domestic machine-made cloth, Xiangtai Cloth Shop with a history of over 70 years finally shut down.
