【Abstract】 The confining spaces in Fingersmith were madhouses that imprisoned women, reflecting thepersecution women suffered in the patriarchal society. Meanwhile, they were"heterotopias of deviation"thatisolated lesbians from the mainstream society, showing that lesbians were rejected and punished in the Victori-an period. The heroines finally deconstructed the patriarchal confining space and constructed a female space tosettle their lesbian desire, but at the same time, they also reconstructed a confining space to achieve self-pro-tection and self-isolation, which is the author’s interpretation of the survival condition of lesbians in the 21 stCentury from a modern angle. She blurs the boundary of fiction and fact, history and present, rendering Fingersmith the characteristics of postmodernism.更多还原
