【Abstract】 Confronted with slower-than-expected economicgrowth in the first quarter,as well as emerging risksrelated to debt default, and a lagging steel and coal in-dustry, debates have heatedup on China’s future policydirection. In a compilationof views by leading econo-mists, opinions remain split on whether a stimulusshould be implemented. Some argue that maintain-ing tight policy controls at current stage is likely tohurt the steady economicgrowth, while others saidminor and targeted stimu-lus is necessary. But thereare still experts that insist that no stimulus is neededfor Chinese economy.
