Study on Ladakhi Muslim Tributary Mission from Leh to Lhasa( 1684- 1944)
【Abstract】 The 1684 Treaty of Temisgang concluded the Ladakh-Tibet-Mughal war. Among the provisions of the treaty was the setting up of a triennial tributary mission from Ladakh to Lhasa during the period of the 1680s to the 1940s. This was the Tibetan musk and tea route. During the winter of 1891-92,British-Indian envoy Captain Bauer from the Ali region along Tibet’s northeastern boundary, found Qamdo nomads selling musk with obvious signs of adulteration. During that time, imported Tibetan tea came from Sichuan,of which the actual inland origin varied,as tea bricks. This thesis indicates that because there were hundreds of delivered goods that went back and forth to provide free taxes and free labor, and Lhasa offered free food in six months time, the tributary mission was quite profitable. This paper discusses the specific route of the path of the official road. In addition to this, there is also the discussion of the life of Tibetan Muslims in Ladakh and inland China, including the soccer team and other cultural events.
