【Abstract】 In 1784,a merchant ship named "empress of China"from the United States opened a new chapter of Sino-US trade. Before the maiden voyage,the Qing government had changed his policy from four south ports to Guangzhou port and the foreign trade was managed by thirteen hongs. The success of the first voyage opened up a new epoch of Sino-US trade,and it has profound significance on expanding the overseas markets of the United States and China’s opening to the outside world. Since then,SinoUS trade exceeded the Netherlands,France and other European countries at the trend of torrent riding,the value of Sino-US trade was second only to Britain who had one hundred years history to china.
