【Abstract】 In George Eliot’s Adam Bede, a pre-industrial pastoral myth and moral fable, Hetty personifies the nature and Dinah personifies the supernatural. Hetty’s naturalism represents the pagan solipsistic hedonism in the agrarian community, and her rejection of Christian moral principle leads her to disastrous tragedy. Dinah’s supernaturalism redeems the sufferer and sinner with her ardent Christian feeling. The marriage of Adam and Dinah consummates the fusion of the natural and the supernatural factors in the text.更多还原
