【Abstract】 Brandom’s inferential role semantics, proposed in his book Making it Explicit as well as his subsequent works, becomes a major concern in philosophy of language. It is acknowledged as a global meaning holism which necessarily leads to impossibility of successful communication. To solve this communication problem, Brandom proposes a cooperative model of communication. This paper first tries to present and explain his semantic role semantics, the communication problem caused by his semantics and his solution with the cooperative model of communication, and then examines his solution in a critical way and arrives at the conclusion that Brandom fails to solve the communication problem.更多还原
