【Abstract】 Growth problem,as a special topic in literature,has been an essential part in America literature with a long history. Since 1850s,writers as Hawthorne,Mayer and Alcott have created various literary works about the growth of youth. American Bildungsroman originates from the period between American Independence War and American Civil War( before 1860),along with the establishment of literature identity of American nation. This paper reports a study on the feature of American Bildungsroman before 1860 and its causes via three representatives in American Bildungsroman: The Scarlet Letter,White Whale and Little Woman.更多还原
