【Abstract】 This paper attempts to trace the semantic paths of English maximizers.Based on a case study of absolutely within an integrated framework of synchronic and diachronic approach to subjectification,it is found that absolutely embodies a unidirectional tendency: objective sense<subjective sense<intersubjective sense.A comparison with its Chinese counterpart "Ji" reveals considerable commonalities between English maximizers and their Chinese counterparts in terms of paths of semantic change.更多还原
