【Abstract】 This paper starts with the description of the collapse of the title character Silas Marner’s belief system,and the novel’s dramatic force which is generated by the tension between Silas and the society of Raveloe.The paper ends with an in-depth analysis of his return to society and religious faith.It is aimed at analyzing the religious belief and humanitarian thoughts of the author George Eliot as reflected in Silas Marner,who is a perfect vehicle for Eliot to explore the relationship between the individual and the surrounding community.The author vividly aired his view that community is the sole source of material and emotional support.更多还原
