【Abstract】 As a typical postmodern works, The Glass Mountain written by Donald Barthelme, which consists of a hundred sentences of graded lengths, presents a posture of refusing interpretation with its fantastic and fragmentary form. However, the paper considered that the image of "I" in the novel and the process of "I" climbed the glass mountain to seek the beautiful symbol are the core of the works. The simple narrative form and language of the works were corresponding to the confused era that humanity spirit was weakening and truth was being dispelled, but there was the single-minded pursuit of dreams of postmodern intellectuals beneath the fragments, which highlighted the traditional independent spirit and the pursuit for truth of western intellectuals.更多还原
