【Abstract】 American dream,a traditional literary theme in American literature,has become the incarnation of American culture and the backbone of American national spirit.With the emergence of modern civilization,it is under suspicion and denial from more and more people.Writers have even criticized it on every side.What is the relationship between American dream and American modern drama is the starting point of this research.Analyzing the backgrounds,characters and writing methods of the three representative works by the three prominent American modern dramatists shows that these works have disclosed the literary theme of loss of American dream at all levels.Therefore,a reexamination of American modern drama works from the perspective of traditional literary theme of American dream is a beneficial attempt for our understanding and studying American modern drama works.更多还原
