【Abstract】 Setting and location are two locative roles,functioning differently in conceptualization.Based on the relevant analysis proposed by Langacker,this paper discusses their distinct conceptual roles and their conceptual relevance with other roles.It claims that location is a part of setting as conceptual archetype,but its coding is more prominent than setting as it is conceptually proximal to the participant,while setting is conceptually close to the conceptualizer,it tends to be neglected;The two are also different in conceptual levels.Location is construction-intrinsic while setting is discourse-constrained."There" in the existential pattern represents the elevation of abstract setting to subject and it is coded more prominently than location.更多还原
