宏观与微观翻译伦理视角下译者的主观和客观操控
Subjective and Objective Manipulation by Translators: From the Perspective of Macro and Micro Translation Ethics
【Abstract】 Translation, with the translator as subjectivity, may be regarded as an institutionalized social behavior. As it follows that its program of activities and goals must follow the norms and standards or constraints of certain value systems. The behaviors are revealed mainly in the aspects of the faithfulness to the original author, the attitude to the cultural "Otherness",the adopted translator’s communicative means in terms of the target language readers and the observance of the publication norms, reflecting the subjective or objective manipulation by the translator under the control of macro-and micro-translation ethics. This paper, taking the translation of Chuang Tzu as an example, tries to further elaborate the above viewpoint. It holds that due to the passage of time, the unexpected meanings derived in Chinese context, and cultural differences between English and Chinese, translating such Chinese ancient classics as Chuang Tzu is often involved with the translator’s interpretation based on their cultural values and subjective and objective manipulation of the translator.
