【Abstract】 Wu Guangjian was a well-known translator, diplomat and enlightenment educator in modern China. He was the first man to translate famous western literary works into vernacular Chinese and made great achievements and ushered in the era of translating using vernacular. He is still unrivalled in translation in terms of the wide categories of writing, high criteria for the selection of source texts, amount of translation, and the survival ability of his translation works.
