【Abstract】 Based on Halliday’s interpersonal function of systemic-functional grammar, this paper is designed to investigate how interpersonal meaning is realized by modal auxiliaries. The samples of Churchill’s first three speeches delivered in World War Ⅱ are taken in which the frequency of modal auxiliaries and the deep interpersonal meaning have been analyzed, and the relationship between the modal auxiliaries and the interpersonal meaning is demonstrated.更多还原
