【Abstract】 The Oxford American College Dictionary(OACD)adopts a new sense ordering principle — prototypical sense ordering.However,some prototypical senses in OACD are not established properly due to lack of a consistent principle.So,it is necessary to establish the principles and specific operating methods for the determination of prototypical senses.Based on prototype theory,the prototypical sense can be determined according to the principle that it is the most literal and central meaning accepted by native speakers and that it is the meaning from which other meanings are derived.Specifically,prototypical sense can determined by means of questionnaires and analysis of semantic motivation between senses.Thus the prototypical sense can be determined in a consistent way.更多还原
