【Abstract】 Female Bildungsroman has its peculiar narrative pattern,and Kate Chopin’s masterpiece The Awakening is characteristic of the female Bildungsroman with the narrative pattern of awakening.Based on close reading of the text,this paper analyzes the dual personality of Edna Pontellier,the protagonist of The Awakening,and the illusive nature of her dream,and further examines the cause and effect of her unique spiritual development.The paper points out that Edna’s awakening after marriage not only enables her to acquire a spiritual development,but also makes her unable to confront the reality,thus causing her to stubbornly regress to her romantic dreams of passion,and finally brings about her death.更多还原
