Analysis on the Relationship between Body Mass Index and Metabolic Diseases in Elder People
【Abstract】 Objective To explore the relationship between Body Mass Index(BMI)and metabolic diseases such as blood fat abnormity, diabetes and fatty liver in the elder people. Methods 1343 subjects accepted physical examination and indexes measurements for BMI,blood fat,FPG and real time type-B ultrasonic of liver. All the subjects were categorized by BMI into four groups as under weight, normal, over weight and fat. Results No significant difference was shown for BMI in different genders(P>0.05).Morbidity rates of blood fat abnormity, diabetes and fatty liver were 40.9%,7.5% and 23.3%,respectively.Compared with males the morbidity rates of blood fat abnormity and fatty liver were higher in females(P<0.005,respectively).Males compared with females, different BMI level showed different morbidity rates as for blood fat abnormity were 12.9% VS 33.3%,33.7% VS 59.2%,52.6% VS 71.1%,and 63.3% VS 62.1%;rates for diabetes were 0% VS 4.8%,4.9% VS 8.7%,10.2% VS 6.1%,and 13.3% VS 20.7%;rates for fatty liver were 0% VS 0%,7.6% VS 17.9%,35.5% VS 40.9%,and 7.5% VS 69.0%.Conclusion Morbidity rates of blood fat abnormality, diabetes and fatty liver in the elder people are markedly higher than the average level of national adult citizens. The morbidity rates of these three metabolic diseases are positively related with BMI and especially higher in females.
