【Abstract】 This paper investigates the construction "gei VP"("给VP")and discusses several related issues such as the reasons why gei can be added to a VP,and as the semantic functions that gei has.It proposes that "gei VP" contains a semantic component "external force" and the nature of the external force is determined by the type of verb to which gei is added.When it is added to a V1-V2 combination in which V1 is not a lexical unaccusative,the external force is a cause(r).In the case that a lexical unaccusative verb is involved,the external force is more circumstantial.更多还原
