Advanced English,as a kind of intensive reading course in the undergraduate phase for English majors in continuing education system,aims at providing learners comprehensive English language skills. In order to further enhance the learners’ language competence,the present paper analyses the characteristics of the teaching materials and explores the teaching methods from the following four aspects of language teachingvocabulary,syntax,rhetoric and discourse.
