【摘要】 围绕研究生培养问题的一点议论,特别是偏于基础研究和能为未来创新的人才培养。首先描述了历史上3位科学家的典型例证,从中说明了基础研究对开创近代文明的重大意义,也从中看出其中的艰难和科学家感人的精神。他们中的工作大都是以博士学位教育为起点,而后开创大业。谈到中国的历史和当前,认为中国应认真提高博士学位教育水平,它是未来科技发展创新的重要教育环节,要成为一个博士教育强国,我们需要树立长远的眼光,打好自己的基础,改革和积累教育及科研紧密结合的经验。

【Abstract】 In the last scores of years Chinese university graduate school system has trained a great number of doctorate students.This is a notable progress compared to the case when there was not a graduate degree conferred at all.However,the quality lags much behind the quantity.Surely,Chinese universities should strive to produce more and more doctorate scientists with high achievements so as to contribute more to the society and to advance more the progress of science,particularly in the basic research areas.The paper begins with some well known superb fundamental research works on nuclear,liquid crystals and the second structure of proteins to illustrate how important their achievements have affected this world and how these scientists show their overall qualities.Some of the important elements behind the successes are analyzed.The situation in China is also analyzed and some ideas are suggested.However,the paper is a talk,and it naturally finishes with a stop mark at the end.
