This paper attempts to use Foucault's power-discourse theory to analyse the film The Shawshank Redemption.We can clearly find in the film an explicit line: using the liberalism and individualism as the core value to construct the American mainstream ideology.With the theory,we may also find an implicit line: knowledge/discourse and power in the film to do as the same.All these functions to maintain and stabilize the American mainstream ideology.
