【Abstract】 Objective To explore the mental health status of patients undergoing surgical treatment and the correlation factors. Methods 141 patients undergoing surgery (observation group) and 134 patients undergoing non-surgical treatments (control group) were invited for our investigation by self-rating depression scale (SDS), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-edited related factors questionnaire. The data was analyzed statistically. Results The SDS and SAS scores of observation group were higher than those of control group (P<0.01). Correlation factors that influence the mental health included: unfinished responsibility for the families (48.94%), worrying about the therapeutic efficacy (78.72%), pain (75.89%), worrying about the cost for hospitalization and less knowledge about illness, worrying about decrease of self-care ability (both 68.09%). Conclusions The incidence of depression and anxiety of patients undergoing surgery was higher than that of the patients undergoing no-surgical treatment.
