【Abstract】 This paper concludes that the tragedy of Razumov—the protagonist of Conrad’s novel Under Western Eyes,results from his own double personality.Razumov is confronted with several kinds of pressures:being puzzled over fixing his own identity,being trapped in the conflicts between reason and emotion,being uncertain about his political stand when facing Russia’s autocracy and people’s revolution.Forced by the above stresses,Razumov gradually splits up into a tragic homo duplex.Through this novel,Conrad criticizes that the political violence of a nation presses individual life,and reveals his moral concern about individual survival.更多还原
