【Abstract】 Verbal humor is the essence of the language and a reflection of human wisdom.One influential theory of humor research is incongruity theory regarding incongruity as one important source of humor.Generally,pragmatic presupposition has a common ground,which should be understood as a dynamic,relative and approximate notion.The basic features of pragmatic presupposition have made it a source of incongruity and meanwhile a generative mechanism of humor.The paper explores English verbal humor from the perspective of pragmatic presupposition and offers a different view for humor appreciation and creation.更多还原
