【Abstract】 OBJECTIVE:To assess whether dual infection of hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)result in a higher risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)than each infection alone.METHODS:Literatures with case-control study were cited from CBM and Medline, and the data from the papers published from 1990 to 2006,which concerning the relationships between the dual infections of HBV/HCV with HCC in Chinese population, were selected and enrolled in the Meta-analysis.The pooled odds ratio(OR)and 95% confidence interval(95%CI)were calculated by random effect model.RESULTS:Totally 37 case-control studies with 4 203 cases and 5 642 controls separately were selected. As compared with the no-infecton,the pooled odds ratio and 95% confidence interval(CI)was 20.91(95%CI:15.40-28.40)for HBV infection alone,10.60(95%CI,6.74-16.65)for HCV infection alone, and 50.27(95%CI:34.92-72.38)for dual infections of HBV and HCV,respectively.CONCLUSION:Either HBV or HCV infections is the independent etiologic factor for HCC in China, and dual infection by HBV and HCV demonstrate synergism effect on the carcinogenesis of HCC.
