【Abstract】 Linguistic iconicity refers to the association between signifier and signified,or the association between the form and the content of language.It can help the reader understand the implications and writer’s intention of a certain literary work through investigating the arrangement of linguistic units in a literary text.In A Rose for Emily,by using special sound effects,first person plural perspective,chronological disorder,contrast between concise and long-winded sentences,and metaphorical characters and events,the writer intends to display the contradictions between the old and the new social orders in American south after the Civil War,writer’s resentment against the immorality and the destruction of human nature by old mores in the south,and his sympathy for the protagonist.更多还原
