【Abstract】 Metropolis is the result of the competitive and cooperative process of the regional economic development at a certain stage,and a special spatial organization. Metropolis gives an unassailable impulse to the regional economic development,so it has become the focus of the practice and research. In knowledge economy era and the background of the region as the key geographical unit in the national strategic deployment,this article reviews the main studies of metropolitan spatial structure choosing a position from the regional economic development and knowledge creation.
